Taste of Seven Mile Sticky Toffee Cake & Giveaway
Did your mouth just drop open? It’s mouth-droppable.
This is Seven Mile Sticky Toffee Cake. Some of you may not be familiar with sticky toffee. I know I wasn’t before I moved to the Cayman Islands which is a British Overseas Territory. Trust me when I tell you that your life is incomplete without it.
At last year’s Taste of Cayman, Martina de Lima launched a new product: the Seven Mile Sticky Toffee Cake. She also took home top honors for ‘Best Dessert.’
‘I love sticky toffee,’ says Martina. ‘I thought about what isn’t readily available and I saw an opening in the market for sticky toffee cake!’
The cake is pre-made in the bakery, vacuum packed, and injected with hydrogen gas to keep it fresh. While a toffee glaze is added during the baking process, a box of sticky toffee cake also comes with a separate bag of toffee. You just pop one in the microwave and toffee-top it to your heart’s desire. Bazinga!
As part of The Deep Dish’s Taste of Cayman series, Martina invited me out to the bakery to sample some of her delicious cakes.
She serves hers with vanilla ice cream. Chef Martina tossed some pecans on mine to add some crunch and a wobbly knee-inducing, salty-sweet combo.
This dessert is like having a fancy restaurant in your own kitchen.
The cakes come in mini bundts or loaves. They’re sold at several stores across Grand Cayman and while they’re not being distributed (yet!) in the US, you can order them online and have them shipped anywhere you like. Since Martina is such a lovely gal, she’s offered up some minis for two lucky readers!
