Restaurant Week 2012: XQ’s Pizza Bar Grill
We’re more than halfway through Restaurant Week 2012 in the Cayman Islands and organizers say so far it has been a big success! I’m not surprised after the preview meals I had over at Guy Harvey’s and today’s featured restaurant: XQ’s Pizza Bar Grill.
When you step inside XQ’s, you’re instantly transported to New York City, San Francisco, Miami…it is totally urban chic and very different from anywhere else in the Cayman Islands. They claim to have the best pizza on island: ‘Having imported a bona fide wood oven and Pizza Chef both from Italy, no corners have been cut to bring you that authentic taste.’ Makes sense to me! Let’s have some!
Let’s kick start this meal with some Honey BBQ Chicken Skewers. Hot stuff! Growing up in Oklahoma taught me the value of good BBQ and this had all the winning qualities. It was sweet, tangy and had this lovely slow burn that creeped up after you’d taken a couple bites.
Next up, some yummy Cayman Conch Fritters. This is a staple dish in Cayman. Normally, I’m not the biggest fan but I snuck two of these delicious fritters off Clark Kent’s plate before he caught me moving in on a third. Great seasoning, not rubbery at all and light enough to leave plenty of room for the main course.
From the three choices available, CK went with the 8oz Certified Angus Beef Burger with fries. So delicious! This juicy burger was perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. And don’t discount the side dish! These fries were super yummy.
BAM! There’s the pizza we were talking about earlier. The Restaurant Week menu featured any 12 inch Italian Style Pizza. Since XQ’s is so well known for their pizzas, I asked them to bring me out the one that would ‘blow my mind.’ This is George’s White Pizza with braesaola, mozzerella, black olives, basil, arugula and balsamic vinegar. Well played, XQ’s. Consider me BLOWN. Everything about this dish was spot on…from the crispy crust, to the flavorful braesoala to the clever use of balsamic vinegar. Loved it.
To round out our meals, CK chose the New York Style Cheesecake…
…while I had the Banana Crème Pie. Espresso or Americano included! Both of these desserts were ace. Creamy, fluffy, pillows of yum.
There’s still plenty of time for you to take advantage of Restaurant Week 2012 which continues through October 6th. With over 16 participating restaurants offering $15, $25 and $35 three course menus throughout lunch and dinner, you’re bound to find a meal that will satisfy.
A big thanks to the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and to XQ’s Pizza Bar Grill for inviting The Deep Dish to sample and showcase some of the fantastic dishes Restaurant Week has to offer!
