Let Me See Your Tootsie Roll

So hey, I’m in a REAL book club.  I know, right!  I didn’t think they existed either.  I figured it was code for ‘women getting together to chat and drink wine.’  Needless to say, I wasn’t expecting much discussion on the actual book of the month but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into our host’s home and she had her well-read copy of the book in her hands, the movie playing on the (huge) TV in the living room and the soundtrack streaming on the home stereo system.  Tiffany was ready to talk!  Her points sparked loads of conversation and debate. I sat back and thought about just how cool that really was.

The book was Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.  I won’t spoil it for you if you’ve never read it, but let’s just say it is very intense.  To help lighten the mood, I pulled out one of the recipes I got from Jake Wesley Stewart – bartender extraordinaire – to keep things sweet.  Again, I didn’t have any of his measurements so this is the combo I worked out.  I made a few adjustments to his recipe because I wasn’t able to get my hands on some of the ingredients.

  8. Can't say that I've ever had this drink. But it sounds yummy. I read Into the Wild (and saw the movie) and definitely intense. But I think a Tootsie Roll is the perfect drink to discuss it with 🙂

  12. I forgot to tell you that I had you on the list of the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award, but I got so “blindsided” with all that was going on, and having the entire post removed, and comments, and I just also realized my list of linked names for that award was also removed, but I do remember I had your name linked on that particular award. Blogger sure had me and others in a bit of confusion!

Please stop by to pick up the award (sorry for not listing all over again.)

  13. I'm curious…was the bartender at the book club? or was this after the book club get together! At any rate. I love your version of the adaptation. My kind of cocktail, starting out as a “Black Russian” with just the vodka and Kahlua, and ending up with a fabulous twist of yummy chocolaty, and more coffee goodness with whipped cream on the top? Oh, my!…gotta try this.
    Thanks for sharing, sweetie:DDD
