Honey, I’m Home!

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

Well, I made it back from the Big Apple, mostly in one piece.  I’ve never played so hard in my life.  There was sight-seeing, food eating, drink…um…drinking.  You name it, we did it.

This pretty much sums up the whole trip.  Ahem.

We rented an apartment while we were there to save some money and it ended up being right on top of this hip and trendy spot called Swing 46.  The bartender, Jake, made it his mission in life to have us try every drink under the sun and the vast majority of them were super tasty.  He was kind enough to share the components of the drink with me (and you) but left the quantities out, forcing me to experiment.  Darn him.  Luckily, I had a girlie session last night that gave me the perfect opportunity to play around with the ingredients until I got as close as I could probably get.  It was most definitely a team effort and after about the fourth try we were pretty sure we had the recipe.

Honeycomb by Jake Wesley Stewart, adapted by Parsley Sage

You will need:

1/2 squeezed lemon (Jake’s recipe says ‘lemon juice’)
30 ml honey (Jake uses Sourwood Honey Syrup)
25 ml gin
30 ml Lillet Blanc wine

  • Combine the lemon and honey first (we found this out the hard way)
  • Add the gin and wine
  • Shake with ice
  • Strain and serve

That’s Jake’s on the left with my attempt on the right.  This is one of those dangerous drinks.  It’s a little too good, if you know what I’m saying 😉

And while we’re here, I have some catching up to do!  Before I went on holiday, Elyse at The Cultural Dish very kindly awarded me the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award!  Woo hoo!  Big, big thanks to Elyse and trust me when I say she totally deserved the award she passed on.  She’s got some tasty stuff on her site.  Anyhoo, as part of the deal I need to share 7 things about myself and I’m gonna pass the award along to 7 other bloggers that I dig.

Hmmm…where to start?

1) I love comic books.
2) I’m a classically trained ballet dancer.
3) I went to high school in Germany.
4) Bacon is my favorite flavor.
5) I’m a PADI certified open water diver.
6) I’m a volunteer with Cayman Wildlife Rescue and in addition to managing the organization’s social media, I spend a few weekends a month tending to our recovering Cayman parrots.
7) I’m a radio reporter in my grown-up job!

Phew. Now that the tough bit is out of the way I’d like to pass this award onto 7 must-see blogs

  7. What a fun post!!! So…. I”m guessing the ballet moves didn't come out on the bar??? 😉 (couldn't help myself sorry!!) I love that you had so much fun! You took me back about 20 years, my friend Gail and I had many such weekends. Somehow, kids but a damper on that.
Love the drink! I've passed that on to my personal bartender (my husband ) and I can see this featured at our summer parties. Thank you and Jake!!!

  8. Your trip to NYC sounds quite similar to one I took with the girls in Acapulco…crazy times many years ago. My tummy was more equipped for trying out scrumptious beverages ;o) Now…I trek carefully…sigh.
